Chirpy Glovers boss Gary Johnson was pleased with his side’s performance, stating “Whoever you play you’ve still got to go out and perform and win. It doesn’t matter whether it’s Manchester Untied or a local smaller outfit like Bristol Rovers, you’ve still got to turn up and we did that tonight”. Ex-Bristol City boss Johnson - who is looking forward to a return to Ashton Gate this season when Yeovil play their league match at Bristol’s only league team - also added some words of encouragement for Rovers’ plucky youngsters “They did a good job considering the gulf in class. There’s probably one or two there who could rise up a few divisions and be at our standard in years to come so good luck to them. For now though, it was just a great chance for them to play at a league club, with the ground and facilities we have and in front of a big crowd for a friendly”. Johnson added “They’ll take that experience with them on their Tuesday night trips to Eastleigh and Alfreton and remember what playing on a big stage feels like. It should give them extra appetite”

Even the players are at it
A goal in each half from striker Ajay Leitch-Smith sealed the win for the Somerset side who used last night’s occasion to ease into their more serious upcoming pre-season programme. Leitch-Smith said afterwards “It’s always great to score a goal whoever you’re playing. The fact it’s a local non-league side doesn’t make a difference to me, it will just give me more confidence when we start facing better opposition".

But we don't want to give them anymore ammunition by out fans now falling for it after us taking the p1ss out of them

Some things you just have to take on the chin.

GJ might of had a mischievous grin on his face,i don't know or mind (we would be chuckling at City if the situation was reversed until they made it back to the FL),but what he has said is the truth,so we take it and move on.

It is only a p*ss take, but at least get the details correct.

I thought it was quite funny as well Dale, all good banter and I think we'd be lapping it up if it was the other way round!

It's all true though, can't blame them one bit. No good getting offended, in order to follow Rovers nowadays a dark sense of humour is a mandatory prerequisite.

Let wup their arse's in the 1st round of the FA Cup, (if we get out of the qualifying rounds of course), lets see how they like being on the end of a 'giant killing' being beaten by a non league team then ....if only they still had their sloping pitch, we could do it in style

As I told my sh*thead brother in law, it's all gallows humour now but we do it far better than they ever could, most of 'em just don't understand it

It should give them extra appetite” I can't help but like that. I think Johnson has a wicked sense of humour. That made I laugh

In a few weeks time no one will remember it started on OTIB. And if we meet them in a cup match it will be said "...remember what that Johnson said about us after that friendly, bar steward......"
