Yesterday, Friday, June 23rd 2023, Glastonbury Festival 2023 kicked off in earnest.

Included in the line-up for the first day of festivities was Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters and Royal Blood to name just a few.

But it was Billy Nomates who was attacked online after videos of her performance hit social media.

She received such comments as "b****y awful" and: "She does look like a drunken mum doing karaoke."

The artist, whose real name is Tor Maries, has since released a statement revealing the steps she has taken since the abuse commenced.

Billy Nomates released a statement which reads: "The level of personal abuse on @bbc6music socials for goin to work today is insane. I've asked for all footage to be removed." (sic)

She added: "I know it's not for everyone what I do. I know lots of people don't rate me. But the level of personal abuse on that public page is too much." (sic)

The 33-year-old also went on to say there will be "no more shows after this summer".

"You wouldn't stay in a workplace that did this to you. Why should I," Billy Nomates went on (sic).

The statement was dropped by singer-songwriter Billy Bragg, who brought together Glastonbury's Left Field tent this year, which is where the artist performed.

He wrote a message of support for Billy Nomates condemning the comments she received.

Bragg said: "Solidarity from everyone at Left Field with Billy No Mates who was so badly abused online after her @glastonbury set was posted on @bbc6music that she asked them to take the clip down."

Billy Nomates is an indie/alternative musician who hails from Leicester, England.

Her most recent hit was Spite, from her second studio album Cacti.

The sun set on one of the greatest careers in British music history, as Elton John played the last UK show of his farewell tour at Glastonbury.

The 76-year-old legend treated his fans to a masterclass in song and stage craft, with a setlist that never stopped delivering classic pop moments.

Bennie And The Jets, Tiny Dancer, Your Song, I'm Still Standing - for two hours, every song was a greatest hit.

"I'm so happy to be here," he told the crowd. "I won't ever forget this."

Elton burst onto the stage shortly after 9pm with Pinball Wizard - as promised, a song he hadn't played in over a decade - following it up with a raucous romp through The Bitch Is Back.

Pausing to catch his breath, he drank in the vast crowd, estimated to be over 120,000 people, and stretched out his arms in gratitude.

"I never thought I'd play Glastonbury - and here I am," he said.

"It's a very special and emotional night for me as it may be my last show in England, in Great Britain."

"I'd better play well and I'd better entertain you because you've been standing there so long," he added,

The show came toward the end of Elton's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour - now officially the highest-grossing tour of all time, with box office receipts of $887m (£697m).

After Glastonbury, there are just seven dates left, with the final show in Stockholm on 8th July.

It puts to rest a touring career that has seen Elton go from a young upstart rocking the Troubador in Los Angeles, to a beloved fixture of the rock establishment.

Over the years, he's gained a reputation for flamboyant excess - feather boas, platform heels, elaborate headdresses and pianos that burst into flames.

"I don't move around the stage," he reasoned. "I've got to attract attention somehow!"

But by Elton's standards, Glastonbury was an understated show that focused purely on his love of music.

It has to be said, however, that his voice isn't what it was. The clipped vowels and marmalade diction have a whiff of Vegas lounge singer - but here at Worthy Farm, his singing was strangely effective, cutting through the air with a clarity that other headliners failed to match this weekend.

After two hours, the set built to an emotional climax.

Elton dedicated Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me to George Michael, "one of Britain's most fantastic singers, songwriters [and] artists".

"He was my friend, an inspiration, and today would have been his 60th birthday - I want to dedicate this song to his memory, and all the music he left us with which is so gorgeous," he added.

Then he drew the curtain on his UK touring career with an extended, elegiac version of Rocket Man, as fireworks echoed around the site.

As he took a final bow with his band, the closing lyric, "I think it's gonna be a long, long time," took on a new poignancy.

"It's been an incredible journey and I've had the best, best time," said the star, with a lump in his throat.

He wasn't the only one.

If this really was his last ever UK show, it was the perfect way to bow out.

Christine and the queens is quite a surprise in the way that there initial appearance to the limelight took a big surge in popularity,  think it was 2019 they had a big chunk of publicity at Glasto' and since the C19 episode have had good air time on radio, but it seems they have not really progressed that much in the popularity stakes ,and i think their music has been not too inspiring ,  their music here was quite new and welcoming, but it now seems too serious

This weekend, a collection of massive artists graced the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival 2023.

Saturday night marked the headline performance of American rockers Guns N Roses - however, people watching on BBC iPlayer began complaining that the band did not sound good enough.

In particular, BBC viewers said they "couldn't hear" singer Axl Rose well enough.

Now, a statement from the agency representing GNR have spoken out about the complaints they have received over the weekend.

According to Wales Online, the band's people have "dug deep" on the issue and determined the cause of the problem came from the BBC, not the band or their equipment.

A spokesperson from the agency told Wales Online on Sunday: "Axl was in top form last night. We have dug deep into the matter, and it appears the broadcast had issues being played on certain TVs like UHDs."

They added: "This was an unfortunate issue that the mix played through these TVs sounded so poorly; however, it was not the band's fault but the BBC's."

A BBC spokesperson said: "This year the BBC brought to audiences amazing live performances straight from Glastonbury's stages, with 40 hours of TV coverage, 85 hours of live radio and multiple streams on BBC iPlayer."

Guns N Roses' lukewarm reception is a shame, considering they are one of the biggest rock bands of all time.

But fans were truly unhappy with how things were shown on TV.

One tweeted: "Think Axl's mic needed to be turned up. High energy gor 2.5 hrs. I was mesmerised by Slash, if I'm honest. Didn't realise quite how good he was." (sic)

Another fan said: "Tbh Gunes & Roses just sounded like they didn't get the mic and instrument volume levels right, wasn't due to Axl voice." (sic)

A third agreed: "Guns n roses were phenomenal just wish they'd have turned axl roses mic up." (sic)

Prices for the 2024 event will be £355:00 plus £5:00 booking fee,an increase on the 23' festival of £20:00...which sold out in 61 minutes.... and as per usual no acts have been announced, the rumour mill is throwing out Adele and Coldplay as likely appearances for the event,

Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA will headline this year's Glastonbury Festival, organisers have announced.

It marks the first time in the event's history that female acts have taken two of the three headline slots.

And country star Shania Twain will play the coveted "legend slot" on Sunday afternoon.

The singer told BBC News she was "over the moon" to be taking part. "Everyone always talks about it being the pinnacle of festival slots," she said.

"The only advice everyone gives me is to bring my wellies," she continued, joking that she might "get myself a little pony and ride around the festival" instead.

Other acts on this year's line-up include Afrobeats star Burna Boy, who is taking his first stride onto the Pyramid Stage; and award-winning rapper Little Simz, who will play immediately before Coldplay.

"This is the only show I'm playing this year," she told BBC 6 Music. "All roads are leading for me to Glasto, so I'm really taking time to craft a show, to make it as much of an immersive experience as I can. Just bringing vibes to the farm, really."

The acclaimed rapper (seen performing in Birmingham in November), 29, took the win in the Best Hip Hop Act category at the MOBO Awards, in Sheffield.

Thirteen-piece boyband Seventeen, meanwhile, will become the first K-pop group to grace the main stage - an indication of how dominant the genre has become over the last five years.

More traditional Glastonbury acts include Idles, Disclosure and The National - all of whom will headline the Other Stage, the festival's second-biggest arena.

Sugababes, who shut down the Avalon field with a reunion performance in 2022, will return - this time on the much bigger West Holts stage.

And pop stars Avril Lavigne, Cyndi Lauper and Camila Cabello will make their Glastonbury debuts.

Tickets for the event sold out in November within an hour of going on sale. A resale of cancelled and refunded tickets will take place in April.

But the focus is always on Glastonbury's headliners - and there's always a fierce debate about who is and isn't worthy of the slot.

Some fans may feel let down by the absence of Madonna, Bruce Springsteen or Stevie Wonder, who had all been heavily rumoured to appear - but the final line-up displays an ambition for Glastonbury to diversify after the all-male, all-rock headliners of 2023.

Dua Lipa last played the festival seven years ago, with a Friday afternoon slot on the smaller John Peel stage.

Although the tent was packed by in-the-know pop fans, the singer's star had yet to explode: her breakout hit New Rules was still a month away from being released, and she closed her set with a crowd sing-along to what was then her biggest song, Be The One.

She was booked to headline the Other Stage in 2020, before the festival was called off due to the Covid pandemic. Since then, the singer has become a world-class performer, opening both the Brits and the Grammy Awards this year.

Her headline set on the Pyramid Stage is likely to focus on her new album Radical Optimism, which was announced on Thursday evening.

The singer has called it a "confidently optimistic" record, inspired by her love of psychedelia, trip-hop and Britpop.

Coldplay, meanwhile, are Glastonbury veterans. They first topped the bill on the Pyramid Stage in 2002, and this year's set will see them become the first act to headline Glastonbury five times.

They haven't played there since 2016, however, with Chris Martin previously telling the BBC he'd been put off by "hurtful" comments about his ubiquity at the festival.

The singer's comments came in 2019, after he had popped up as a surprise guest during sets by Stormzy and Kylie Minogue.

"I saw a tweet afterwards which said, 'You can always rely on him to come on in a tracksuit and ruin everything'," he recalled.

"So I was like, you know what? A), I should work on my trousers; B), I shouldn't be online; and C), maybe just go and watch Glastonbury for a year or so."

The self-imposed ban seems to have been lifted - with Glastonbury the only European festival date on Coldplay's record-breaking current world tour.

SZA is perhaps the biggest unknown quantity among this year's headliners. Born in Missouri and raised in New Jersey, the singer - real name Solána Imani Rowe - trained in marine biology before launching her music career.

But she's had an incredible year - with her second album SOS spending 10 weeks at the top of the US chart, and its signature single Kill Bill spending almost six months in the UK top 40.

She beat stars like Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo and Miley Cyrus to the Brit Award for best international artist earlier this month, and won three Grammys in February.

Her recent arena tour was praised as a "vigorous, confident, theatrical and intimate" tour de force by the New York Times, and it's quite possible she could steal the show from her more established co-headliners.

Meanwhile, Shania Twain will come to Glastonbury fresh from her third Las Vegas residency, and is promising to pull out the stops to make her legend slot a memorable one.

"I'm doing the hits - the songs that everybody knows and the versions that everybody knows," she told BBC News. "It's just going to be a big sing-along party."

And she admitted it had been hard to keep the booking under her (cowboy) hat.

"It's been a couple of months now, so it's a relief to tell everybody. I think it's going to be a real stomper."
