Very sad news indeed. Geoff's crowning achievement was in getting Rovers back playing in Bristol, and making sure the club (and the Mem) was protected from the bankruptcy of the old Rugby Club.
He probably stayed as Chairman for too long, became over sensitive to criticism towards the end of his time, and was hostile to others (like the Gas Trust) who were as committed to BRFC as he was, but over the years he made an immense contribution to Bristol Rovers.

I had my run ins with Geoff. He did good and bad at Rovers, but I would never doubt he was a Gashead or wish ill on him
RIP Geoff

Sorry to hear this news, as without Geoff & his father, there might not be a Bristol Rovers FC. Far too young an age to pass, RIP. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

In the relatively short time we knew each other Geoff and his Dad changed my life for the better.
As supporters of Rovers we all owe Geoff a great deal.
My thoughts are with Sharon, Peter and Matthew on this sad day.

I've got some striking memories of Geoff from a very short but critical time at Rovers from just after the move to Twerton Park to the winning of promotion in 1990 and when I get the chance I will share them on the forum.

I knew Geoff well after my involvement as programme editor from 1987-1992. He asked me to write his story of his involvement at the Club some three years ago but I declined as I felt it should be in his own words.
Always came across as a genuine fan and he made difficult decisions the move from Bristol to Bath was his hardest he had to make. He was truly upset at the relegation to bottom division and the exit from the Football League was he said his worst moment of his time supporting the Gas.
A real gentleman who worked tirelessly for the Club he loved without getting the correct credit. His father Denis never a football fan, was told by Geoff to also get involved and both ensured we had a Club to continue to support and this must never be underestimated.
My last personal conversation with Geoff was at Bobby Jones's funeral when he still spoke so lovingly of his Rovers memories.
RIP Geoff.

Only met him once and he seemed a nice enough person. He and his father keptvrwg bag Rovers alive and getting the Mem gave us a permanent home. Much to be thankful for on those grounds alone. My condolences to his family.

RIP Steered Rovers through troubled times, and genuinely worked hard to give our team a fighting chance of survival.
