Gutted after the good start, but at least a decent pay day.

Just got back..
Brrrrr (fc)from a freezing, yet warmy welcoming bouncy at times Mem.... great to see, and more importantly hear the Souf Stand in half operation.... it's going to be delicious when in full voice..
Take a bow lads, we tried our best, especially LT my m o m and great contributions from Crama, Taylor Evans, Grant and goalscoring sensation but we huffed and puffed but just couldn't take our chances, and again we're prone to the sucker punch.
Nice goal from Macca, he enjoyed that.... booking.com app open at half time looking for digs in Scouse land.....
Second half tweak by Norwich, fortunate as one goal appeared offside but the flag never came, and one goal definitely a foul for penalty but totally unnecessary as they messed up their 6 on 3 move.....but TBF Norwich had more pace, time on the ball, control and we're awesome on the counter
They ran out fair winners in an interesting encounter.
We never let ourselves down, but we are what we are, a dysfunctional average 3rd division team with a spark of genius now and again, but our flaws and foibles let us down altogether too often. We're also a working progress.
You can see what a well polished article looks like and we got handed it back to us in 2nd half, but everyone can take solace they performed very well. We just weren't good enough on the night and with best wishes, Norwich will take themselves off to Anfield and certainly give them a game ... Booking.com app closed....sod em. I'd rather beat Poxford anyway.

He sounded gutted how we lost.

Oh well.
If Thomas scores near end of 1st half ....
The difference between the championship and the old L1 we played in under Francis is just vast.
You wouldnt want to get promoted without some serious investment.

Thought the penalty was rather dubious,as the guy would never have got to the ball in a month of Sundays...as for NC and their second half,it's what we aspire to become, money and time ,but have the owners got the first and will they give the second to whoever is leading the team......

WEDNESDAY 17th JANUARY 2024 - THE FA CUP - THIRD ROUND - REPLAY
BRFC 1 (McCormick 20) Norwich City 3 (Gomes Sara 53, Idah 59 pen, McLean 87)
Report By Sophie Hurcom, BBC Sport at the Memorial Stadium.
i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/01/17/22/80150493-12975913-image-a-24_1705528922935.jpgi2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9041748.ece/ALTERNATES/s1176b/0_JS322009497.jpgChampionship side Norwich came from a goal down to see off League One Bristol Rovers 3-1 and reach the FA Cup fourth round. Rovers were the better side during the first half and deservedly took the lead after 20 minutes through Luke McCormick, whose volley from the edge of the box flew into the bottom corner. Yet two goals in five minutes early in the second half turned the tie on its head as Gabriel Sara scored a simple equaliser when the ball rebounded into his path off the post. Adam Idah then put the Canaries in front from the penalty spot before Kenny McLean scored a late clincher three minutes from time just as Rovers were in the ascendancy chasing an equaliser. Victory means Norwich will play Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday, 28 January at Anfield in the fourth round. Having come from behind at Carrow Road to earn a 1-1 draw and a replay, Rovers started the brighter and seemed more up for the fight against their second-tier opponents. Luke Thomas had the first real chance on goal with a header that initially looked to be looping awkwardly over George Long's head before the Norwich keeper leapt to collect it. The hosts then deservedly took the lead midway through the first half. Harvey Vale's first set-piece bounced around the box before finding Anthony Evans, whose strike from range was only kept out by a fine diving save from Long. When the second corner came in, the ball was again cleared to the edge of the area and McCormick - back in the starting 11 for the first time since early October because of injury - unleashed a first-time strike that this time Long could do nothing about, straight into the bottom corner to get the Memorial Stadium rocking. A Norwich side featuring seven changes from the one that beat Hull in the league last week tried to find a reaction but were limited to a couple of half-chances as Idah sent an effort wide before Sam McCallum's long-range shot was tipped over the bar by Matt Cox. The hosts had the perfect chance to double their lead right before the break when Thomas was picked out in space but despite having the time to tee up his shot, he dragged it wide. Rovers also started the second half on the front foot as winger Thomas forced Long to palm away another strike. But slowly Norwich stepped up a gear and showed flashes of what was to come when Idah broke through on goal one-on-one and Connor Taylor had to make a pitch-perfect tackle to clear. The visitors' breakthrough quickly followed as McCallum's effort rattled the post and bounced into the path of Sara, who had a simple tap-in to an empty net. Norwich breezed into the lead minutes later as they broke in numbers on the counter and a wayward leg from Thomas brought down Jonathan Rowe. While Cox got his hand to Idah's penalty, the ball still ricocheted into the net. Rovers were not down and out and Aaron Collins saw a shot parried away by Long, while Chris Martin had the best chance to draw level against his former team from six yards out but was denied by the Norwich keeper. Rovers threw everything at a equaliser but Canaries skipper McLean wrapped up the win late on with a shot from range, meaning manager David Wagner will take his side to Liverpool a week on Sunday to face his long-time friend Jurgen Klopp. Bristol Rovers manager Matt Taylor told BBC Radio Bristol:"I was so pleased at half time in terms of our first-half performance, where we were in the game, the chances we created and being ahead. "Then in the space of less than five minutes it derailed. A switch-off for their first goal and a little bit of quality for them and they capitalised. Then we're looking to get back in a better feeling about the game and have a corner kick ourselves and then end up defending a counter attack and giving away a penalty in such a short space of time. "All that hard work and effort we'd put in for a good performance all of a sudden turned into a difficult second half and then we were chasing the game against a quality team. "We had quite a good chance when Chris hit towards the back post to get us back level but then we were always going to be open to counter-attacking moments." Match Stats: BRFC 1 Norwich 3 - Possession: 45% - 55% - Shots: 11-10 - On Target: 6-6 - Corners: 8-6 - Referee: Andy Davies - Attendance: 10,335

Did not anticipate a Gas win, but disappointed to go down 1-3. It was s hard listen on the radio at 3.45am KO. Happy for McCormick to get on the score sheet, hope he can find regular starts now. We have almost always, since I can remember been a nearly team, equal steps forward to equal steps back with the odd glitch now and then.

Why no BBC highlights for our game but there are for the other 2 last night? Also noticed no BBC sounds coverage of the game either!
Managed to get last minute tickets in the new south stand. Was a decent view and a good atmosphere, save for a few young chavs who were more interested in goading the away fans all game.
Got stuck in really bad traffic so missed first 10 mins. Really good first half performance and should’ve gone in 2 goals to the good. Crazy 5 minutes but then did have chances to equalise before the sucker punch. The wait for a big cup tie goes on!

Big opportunity missed last night massive queues for food and drink Programmes sold out by 7pm Plus more importantly the opportunity to progress to round 4 and extensive national coverage for a trip to Liverpool
Much revenue lost on ticket sales from a 60000 attendance and TV coverage.
The opportunity to kick start our season was not wasted on Taylor in his post match interview we are an almost team. Aaron Collins needs dropping and Marquis played alongside Martin.
Thomas despite his mistake in giving away a penalty was a constant threat throughout. Connor Taylor showed his class too.

Well, there was the gulf in standard that has to be breached. Bigger, fitter, stronger and faster in both mind and movement. We are exceptional in bursts and probably should have turned around 2-0 up. Norwich though didn’t panic stuck to their system and tweaked the way they dealt with us in the second half, up the guts rather than exclusively down the flanks and from there we needed three more players on the park to cope with the space they were creating. We couldn’t press hard enough when they were manoeuvring us around playing out from the back and attacked in so many numbers and at a pace that had our players chasing shadows. We were then in terms brilliant from the perspective of what we currently are. Now, if I were one of our youngsters and in particular the manager I would be sat down this morning watching the tape over and over again the basis of not looking for failings but looking to where my aspirations are and taking the steps going forward to convert bursts of brilliance into sustained controlled play. Taken in the right way that game could be the making of a successful championship side, players and management growing from experience rather than imagining what championship football requires.

Watched the" penalty" several times now, can't see any intent,a mere collision of players, both watching the ball, and the NC player making a decent meal of his fall, rather harsh decision I think....

Adding to the post above by Harry...'We're an almost team' - Matt Taylor offers verdict on Bristol Rovers' FA Cup exit to Norwich..By Daniel Hargraves.i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9041935.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-1940583060.jpgMatt Taylor has admitted that Bristol Rovers are "an almost team" after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Norwich City following a 3-1 defeat at the Mem, having been 1-0 up at half-time. The defeat will act as a hefty blow for a while given that the prize at stake for the winners was a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool in the fourth round, something that would've meant the world to a number of individuals in the squad. As well as that, the Gas were well in the game for the first hour before a quickfire Norwich double left the hosts shell-shocked, something they couldn't really recover from. Admittedly, there were chances in the game for Rovers, both to extend their lead and then equalise, but it wasn't to be for the Gas as yet another match leaves them thinking 'what if?' Speaking post-match, Taylor declared: "We're an almost team at the moment aren't we? Almost a save, almost an attacking moment for us. We're an almost team. We can't stay an almost group. Myself as a manager, individually players and collectively as a team. We can't just stay like that for long because we'll underachieve. "We've only got the league to concentrate on now so we need to pick up some points pretty quickly. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9041926.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-1940564630.jpgLuke McCormick returned to the scoresheet for Bristol Rovers against Norwich City"I was so pleased at half-time in terms of our first half performance, where we were in the game, the chances we created, being ahead. And then in the space of probably less than five minutes in the second half it kind of derailed. A switch off for their goal and a little bit of quality for them and they capitalised and then we're looking to get back in a better feeling. With a corner kick ourselves, they counter attack and we end up giving away a penalty. "In such a short space of time, all that hard work and effort we've put in for a good performance all of a sudden turned into a difficult second half. Then we were chasing the game against a quality team. We had a quite good chance with Chris [Martin] hitting towards the back post to get us back level but we were always going to be open to counter attacks." Supported by a raucous atmosphere from a sold out Mem crowd, the hosts made an excellent start to the game, picking up the majority of the ball and keeping it in the opposition's half. However, nothing of real note was created until Antony Evans forced a diving save from George Long with the resulting corner eventually landing to Luke McCormick who produced a precise finish to give Rovers the lead. The remainder of the half saw Taylor's side on top, although Norwich did have a spell where they started the process of flexing their Championship muscles, but really Rovers should've gone into the break 2-0 up after Luke Thomas fired narrowly wide. A goal out of nothing and a penalty suddenly spun the game on its head in the second half which the Pirates just couldn't full recover from with the third coming as a result of the hosts pushing for an equaliser and being caught out. "We deserved to be ahead in that first half but they were always going to improve," Taylor insisted." There's just a feeling that we've played our part in their improvement from their success. That's not to take anything away from them, they're a quality team, but once they were in the ascendency you could see that quality really oozing out. But for those two goals in quick succession, we certainly feel that we can perform better. "The whole feel of the stadium change, the whole feel of the game and then having to change the game against that sort of opposition was difficult but credit that we did create a couple of chances. But we were too open. The shape and structure of the team was spot on up until that point which is why it's even more frustrating, certainly that second goal. I can forgive mistakes in relation to that first goal but in terms of an understanding and a responsibility aspect in that moment for the second goal. That's too poor a moment for me not to ignore it really and that can't happen." On the whole, combining the performance in the 1-1 draw at Carrow Road and Rovers' display on Wednesday night, you would have to say that actually the League One team probably edged proceedings but find themselves the side knocked out of the FA Cup. As Taylor said, 'almost' seems to be a word used frequently which suggests that they're capable of achieving more and, over the course of two legs if you like, the Gas were better for a longer duration than the Canaries.

Bristol Rovers player ratings vs Norwich..By Daniel Hargraves.
Matt Cox - 7 Will be disappointed not to have kept the penalty out after getting what looked like a hefty hand on the ball. However, a couple of important saves in the second half kept the score line down as Norwich turned the screw.
Josh Grant - 6 The defender was having an excellent first half but seemed shook, as did many of his teammates, when the visitors turned the game around in a matter of minutes. He was then tasked to push into midfield where he had some decent moments but nothing noteworthy enough to get his side back into the game.
Connor Taylor - 7 Similarly to Cox, if it wasn't for the centre-back it could've been a more dominant win for the Canaries with a last-ditch tackle on Adam Idah particularly noteworthy.
Tristan Crama - 7 Read the game well and got his body into some excellent positions, particularly in the first half. Norwich's lack of a sniff prior to half time was largely down to him.
Luke Thomas - 6 Some decent defensive moments in the first half and looked a threat throughout the game but there will be two chances, both of which to make it 2-0, that he will no doubt be watching back in his head later tonight.
Sam Finley - 6 Demonstrated a perfect use of the dark arts in the middle first half but was one of a collective who just seemed to be rocked by the quick turnaround from Norwich. Whether the prize at stake, as a massive Red, was on his mind throughout the game is something only he can answer but he'll no doubt be one of the most gutted players in there.
Antony Evans - 6 Usually the midfielder always appears the most likely to create something out of nothing for the Gas but, for whatever reason, couldn't muster deliveries of similar threat to usual. Hell of a strike in the first half though to force the save from George Long.
Harvey Vale - 6 Another who didn't have his best game overall but was having a particularly excellent first half, getting in behind repeatedly and keeping Norwich's forwards quiet but the second half was a struggle, as it was for everyone in blue and white.
Luke McCormick - 8 It was so good to see the midfielder back on the scoresheet, showing his quality to bring the ball down and unleash a precise finish. From there it was a bit of a tale of two halves, knocking it about nicely in the first but struggling to keep up at times in the second as Norwich started to flex their Championship muscles. Couldn't fault his effort though, he'll be important in the next couple of league games.
Aaron Collins - 6 Had some really bright spells and looked like one of Rovers' most dangerous attackers in the first half but one strike on target from a tight angle was the closest the forward game to putting the ball in the back of the net.
Chris Martin - 6 Made himself a handful but also put in a vital shift defensively with some important clearances, particularly defending set pieces and balls into the area. The chance for him to equalise will flash before his eyes tonight though.
Substitutes: Jack Hunt (for McCormick 68') - 6 Dropped in at right-back which saw Luke Thomas going further forward. His first kick almost put Norwich through but the defender grew into the game. However, his crossing wasn't of the usual standard as Rovers struggled to create clear cut opportunities after going behind.
John Marquis (for Finley 79') - N/A Held the ball up a bit but hardly had a touch.
Scott Sinclair (for Collins 79') - N/A Again, hardly had a touch as the game started to creep away from the Gas.
